If you’ve been around here for a while, you might know that I have a self-confessed addiction to Starbucks. It started in college with an iced green tea. But, over the years, it evolved. From there I went to lattes. And, thereafter, iced coffee. I spent a long time truly loving my iced coffees (honestly, I still do — unsweetened). Over the last couple of years my obsession has been cold brew with sweet cream. If you’re a Starbucks connoisseur you’ll know that these can get pricey. But this copycat Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream recipe is the perfect way to recreate this favorite from home!
What you’ll need
There are only a few ingredients for this recipe, but they are key to making this sweet cream perfect! So please be sure not to skip any of them. The ingredients are as follows:
1 cup of sweetened condensed milk
4 cups heavy cream or milk for a thinner option
2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
Your favorite brewed coffee, cold
That is all you’ll need! That being said, I suggest either buying Starbucks Cold Brew concentrate, or brew your own cold brew from home.

Oh my, Starbucks here in Japan doesn’t have this but I have to try this recipe out because it sounds really delicious! I like trying copycat recipes from around the world because Starbucks here doesn’t have a lot of choices like the States does.
Starbucks batch mixes this creamer so there are no gums or thickeners, and yet the resulting sweet cream is still velvety. A short internet search will quickly give you Starbucks' recipe for sweet cream at home: heavy cream, 2% milk, and their vanilla syrup.
The Starbucks recipe also includes 2 pumps of vanilla syrup. Sweet cream cold foam is a mixture of heavy whipping cream, 2% milk, and vanilla syrup. It comes as a pre-mixed base and is blended into a fluffy texture that sits on top of your drink. You get a little taste of it with each sip.
This rich and creamy blend of vanilla bean, milk and ice topped with whipped cream takes va-va-vanilla flavor to another level. To change things up, try it affogato-style with a hot espresso shot poured right over the top.
It is made with 1 part vanilla syrup, 2 parts 2% milk, and 3 parts heavy cream. With a lot of sugar and a lot of fat, this is our second highest calorie count of milk options that Starbucks offers. Each oz of vanilla sweet cream will add 87 calories to your drink.
Traditional sweet cream is similar to half-and-half, with a high fat content but no added sugar, according to co*cktail Party. Starbucks' sweet cream, however, is a vanilla-based, high-fat cream product with added sugars, imparting a sweet, syrupy flavor to your coffee drinks.
Where cold foam is made with skim milk, sweet cream is made with 2% milk in addition to other ingredients. The milk is whisked with heavy cream and a larger quantity of vanilla syrup – three pumps per half-cup, according to StarbMag.
Starbucks formulates and manufactures their own syrups. Someone else posted that Starbucks gets their syrups from a brand called Fontana but Starbucks is actually responsible for this brand, too, as you will note if you visit the Starbucks Branded Solutions website.
Sweet cream is a type of heavy cream that has a high fat content, typically around 36%. Half-and-half is a mixture of equal parts whole milk and heavy cream, and has a fat content of around 12%. Light cream, also known as coffee cream or table cream, has a fat content of around 18%.
With five grams of sugar in every pump of vanilla syrup, a made-to-order grande vanilla latte contains 35 grams of sugar in total. Before ordering, ask your barista how many pumps of syrup they'd recommend based on your preferences, and specify if you want your drink unsweetened.
Milk: Starbucks typically uses whole milk to create a creamy base for their frappuccinos. Whole milk has a higher fat content than other types of milk, which contributes to a richer, creamier texture.
Besides size, there are some differences between the two types of lattes. The Blonde Vanilla Latte is made with a special blonde espresso, which has a lighter roast profile compared to Starbucks' signature espresso used in the regular Vanilla Latte.
It's just a 3-2-1 ratio of heavy cream, 2% milk, and vanilla syrup, so you can buy the ingredients and make it at home. You can buy a bottle of vanilla from a Starbucks if they have enough to spare, or buy another brand like Torani.
Think of vanilla sweet cream cold foam as very similar to whipped cream. However, it is not whipped as much, making it softer and creamier than traditional whipped cream. As a result, it's also much easier to stir into your drink! And doing so still leaves a layer of cream on top of the drink for you to sip on.
Milk with a bit of fat is lower in sugar than skim, if minimizing the sweet stuff is a major goal for you (though you should still be mindful of how much you add so you don't overdo the saturated fat); otherwise, go for skim or almond milk.
Whipped cream is generally made by literally whipping up heavy cream while cold foam is made by whipping up non-fat milk. Taking Starbucks as an example, they add a little vanilla syrup to both their cold foam and whipped cream toppers. A serving of Starbucks cold foam has 35 calories and zero grams a fat.
Unlike traditional vanilla ice cream, which is flavored with vanilla extract, sweet cream ice cream is made using a base mixture of cream, milk, sugar, and sometimes eggs. The absence of vanilla allows the pure, sweet flavor of the cream to shine through, resulting in a rich and creamy taste that is beloved by many.
The Starbucks sweet cream recipe is just a mixture of vanilla simple syrup, heavy cream, and 2% milk. It's much better than any creamer at the grocery store.
