Police Blotter: August 11 through August 17 (2024)

DICKINSON — The Dickinson Police Department responded to a series of incidents over the past week, including several arrests for various offenses, reports of vandalism and a notable recovery of stolen vehicles. Highlights include arrests for resisting officers, possession of stolen property and domestic violence, as well as investigations into theft, burglary and incidents involving juveniles.

As always, those mentioned in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges outlined are based on initial reports from law enforcement and do not signify any convictions.

3:56 a.m.: Law enforcement received a report that two suspicious males were sitting in some bushes on Sierra Commons Road. An officer spoke with the males, who said they were waiting for a taxi, and asked them to move to the sidewalk to wait. No further action was taken.

9:28 a.m.: A male found drug paraphernalia in the street on Villard Street W. Law enforcement collected the items.

10:00 a.m.: A female reported her door on Sixth Avenue W was covered in food. No further information was available.

12:31 p.m.: Officers assisted a male whose car broke down in traffic on 15th Street W. They helped push the car into a nearby parking lot.

12:59 p.m.: A caller reported ice cream was thrown on his pickup on 12th Street W. No further information was available

6:16 a.m.: Dayton Williams, 25, of Dickinson was arrested on Ninth Avenue W for Criminal Trespass, Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Assault on a Peace Officer, a Class C Felony. He was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center.

9:38 a.m.: James Pettus, 41, of Dickinson was arrested on 12th Street W on a warrant for Failure to Appear – Possession of Paraphernalia. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. According to a Stark County Criminal Complaint, Pettus was found to have possessed methamphetamine, a Class C Felony. He was also found to have had a Burleigh County warrant for Revocation of Probation. He was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center and held without bond.

11:45 a.m.: Officers responded to a report of a male acting disorderly at Family Dollar Store on Villard Street W. He was holding up the line of customers and swearing at the clerk. An officer issued the unnamed man a trespass warning.

7:04 p.m.: Law enforcement received a report of vandalism to two vehicle windows on Second Avenue West. No further information was available.

9:58 p.m.: A male was reported standing by his vehicle with a firearm on 10th Avenue Southeast. Officers determined the male was watching for meteors with binoculars. No action was taken by law enforcement.

1:03 a.m.: Robert Wiese, 38, was arrested on First Street SW for Fleeing a Peace Officer, a Class A Misdemeanor, Concealing a Dangerous Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor, Driving Under Suspension, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Reckless Driving, A Class B Misdemeanor. He was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center.

11:38 p.m.: A Dickinson woman was arrested for Domestic Violence – Bodily Injury, a Class B Misdemeanor

12:15 a.m.: An attempted burglary was reported on the 1300 block of 14th Street W. Someone had tried to break into a garage. No further information was available.

2:10 a.m.: Katherine Benson, 23, of Dickinson, was arrested on a Burleigh County warrant for Theft and Driving Under Suspension. She was found to have a Barnes County warrant for Driving Under Suspension. She was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center.

5:11 a.m.: Thomas Sargent, 46, of Dickinson, was arrested on a Stark County warrant for a Disorderly Conduct Restraining Order. He was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center.

2:41 p.m.: A gas drive off for the amount of $81 was reported on Villard Street E. The individual did not return to pay, and theft of property charges, a Class B Misdemeanor, will be forwarded to the city attorney’s office for consideration.

7:32 p.m.: A welfare check was requested for a man reported stumbling around with hospital equipment stuck to him on the 1300 block of State Avenue N. Law enforcement was unable to locate the man.

9:14 p.m.: Law enforcement responded to a report of people in the trees near the 1000 block of Villard Street E. An officer determined the people were homeless and camping near a culvert. No further information was available.

12:23 a.m.: Caden Thoman, 21, of Riverton Wyo., was cited for Exhibition Driving and arrested for Driving Under Suspension. He was released on a promise to appear.

7:57 a.m.: A male reported his vehicle was taken from Sixth Avenue W. sometime overnight. He said it was then returned to his apartment but was parked in a different area.

4:05 p.m.: A 38-year-old female was arrested on Gum Avenue for Domestic Violence -Simple Assault, a Class B Misdemeanor.

6:54 p.m.: Law enforcement received a report of drugs found in a parking lot at 12th Street W. An officer placed the drugs in evidence for destruction.

8:02 p.m.: A 22-year old Dickinson man was arrested for resisting an officer on First Street S., a Class B Misdemeanor. Parker Klemm was transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center without incident.

9:54 a.m.: Law enforcement received a report of a theft from a storage closet on Meadows Drive. No further information was available.

11:54 am.: An assault was reported on Second Avenue W. No further information was available.

3:56 p.m.: An individual reported their Airpods were stolen while at Final Final on 12th Street W.

8:53 p.m.: Law enforcement received a report of a resident’s dogs being attacked multiple times by their neighbor’s dogs on Eighth Avenue E. The information was forwarded to an animal control officer

5:06 a.m.: An officer responded to the Emergency Room for a male that reported his wallet and phone were stolen after an assault. The male stated he did not want to report the assault.

10:16 a.m.: Shelly Sorensen, 56, and Neal Haverluk, 65, both of Dickinson, were each arrested on Villard Street E for Hindering Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Theft of Services, a Class B Misdemeanor. They were transported to the Southwest Multi County Correction Center.

3:11 p.m.: Law enforcement received a report of possible human trafficking involving a juvenile at a hotel
