Hi - how long does your pecan pie Chex party mix stay fresh ? I’m thinking to include it in Christmas baskets but would want to make it ahead of time ... Thank you

  2. Cyd says:

It should be fine in an airtight container for about 5 days. It doesn't last long at our house, we polish it off within a day or 2. :)

FAQs

How do you keep Chex Mix from getting soggy? ›

The best tip for avoiding the sogginess is the make sure to stir up the mixture well each 15 minutes as it bakes. This will allow the chex mix to cook evenly and allow all pieces to get baked and crispy. After baking, make sure to store in a airtight container or Ziploc.

What is pecan pie filling made of? ›

Pecan pie is a delightful concoction of pecan nuts mixed with a rich, caramelly filling made from eggs, butter, corn syrup, and sugar. The earliest pecan pie can be traced all the way back to the late 1800s, but it really peaked in the early 20th century when Karo™ syrup printed a pecan pie recipe on its bottles.

Why didn t my pecan pie set up? ›

I agree with Jolenealaska that you probably need a longer bake time. I always needed 55-60 minutes for my pecan pies to set and I cook them several times a year. (As noted by Wayfaring Stranger, sometimes you need to cover the crust edges with foil to avoid getting them too dark).

How do you keep pecan pie from being runny? ›

To avoid this, always start your pecan pie at a high enough temperature, such as 425 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. You can lower the temperature to around 350 degrees Fahrenheit after the first half-hour, or 30 minutes. It is done when you notice the pecan filling is bubbling and the pie is browned.

Why is my homemade Chex Mix soggy? ›

Using too much liquid. Don't go over the recipe's suggested liquid amounts; that is a sure way to get soggy mix (which, again, nobody wants). Follow this tip: If you need to make a change in liquid ingredients, just keep the amount the same.

How long will Chex party mix stay fresh? ›

Make Ahead Instructions: Chex mix tastes freshest when served within 2-3 days of making it, but it will last stored in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Freezing Instructions: Chex mix freezes great! Store in freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months.

Can I use light corn syrup instead of dark for pecan pie? ›

Light and dark corn syrup can be used interchangeably in almost every instance, with slight flavor variances. In a pecan pie, for example, light corn syrup will contribute sweetness and a hint of vanilla, but that's about it. Dark corn syrup, in addition to sweetness, will add color and a more robust, toasty flavor.

Why does pecan pie taste so good? ›

The pie crust helps serve as a contrast to the pie's ultra-sweet filling. The pecans do the same while providing a nice soft crunch. The consensus when it comes to the taste of the crust and the pecans is that they are buttery. This complements the sweet filling and completes the gooey, delicious dessert.

What can go wrong with pecan pie? ›

Pecan pie has a somewhat similar set of issues—the filling can crack, the bottom can be under-baked, the filling can seep under the crust, and the nuts can be soggy. Like the pumpkin pie, the filling will crack if the pie is over-baked or cools too quickly.

How do I get my pecan pie to set? ›

If your pie is soupy, you probably didn't bake it long enough. Baking time can vary with this recipe, so it's best to give it a good jiggle before you take it out. If it's very jiggly, pop it back in the oven for 20 minutes or so until it's set.

Can I leave my pecan pie out overnight? ›

You can only keep it at room temperature for two hours. Since pecan pies contain eggs, they have more chances to get bad and make you sick. So, if you have kept your pies in the fridge, put them back within two hours. On the other hand, store-bought pies contain preservatives that keep them from spoiling.

Should homemade pecan pie be refrigerated? ›

According to the USDA, homemade egg-rich pies, including pecan pie, must be refrigerated after cooking and cooling to prevent the growth of bacteria. They recommend chilling pies promptly, and as a general rule, not leaving food at room temperature for more than two hours.

Should you refrigerate pecan pies after baking? ›

Yes. Because pecan pie is an "egg-rich" pie, the USDA recommends you store it in the fridge after it has cooled. Unless you plan on serving the pie within two hours of baking, it shouldn't stay out at room temperature.

What is the best way to store Chex Mix? ›

Once cooled, store the Chex Mix in a covered container for up to 10-14 days. A really large Tupperware container works well, and you can also use plastic storage bags to store it. Make sure it stays sealed so the Chex Mix doesn't get stale. You can also gift this savory snack around the holidays.

How do you freshen Chex Mix? ›

If you're looking to breathe new life into the snack, spread it on a baking sheet and heat in the oven at 250°F for about five minutes. It should be as good as new! You can also consider adding the slightly stale variety to your favourite five-minute trail mix recipe for some added texture.

What are the brown toast things in Chex Mix? ›

The brown, round things you are referring to in Chex Mix are known as "Wheat Chex." Wheat Chex is a type of cereal made from whole wheat, and it is a common ingredient in various Chex Mix varieties.

Why is my Chex Mix tasteless? ›

Unfortunately, sometimes people only add a few tablespoons of butter to several cups of mix, resulting in a dry, flavorless mess. For the best Chex Mix, it's recommended to use a stick of butter for every 10 cups of the cereal and cracker mixture.
