Moving back to Home of Record once retired (2024)

When I ran the numbers it wasn't even worth submitting a claim for reimbursem*nt. We were moving to a different location from HOR and the 500 miles because the reimbursem*nt mileage was 21 cents per mile. We sold everything so don' t know what we would have gotten for moving our stuff. Its definitely good idea to find out ahead.

Thats what I am trying to understand. From my research, they will pay for the cost of moving your goods, and they will pay for the travel costs. I am trying to find out if those reimbursem*nts offset, combine, or if it's one or the other. Seems ludacris to expect a family to be able to move off of pennies to the mile

Per Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), we cannot process your travel voucher until the date you are placed on the retirement list or the discharge date on your military orders.

Form Completion​

Make sure your claim is complete and correct before you send it in! If you include a valid e-mail address in box 6e of your DD1351-2, we will send you updates. Don’t forget to keep a copy of your submission.

Follow these tips:

1. Use SmartVoucher – This guides you step-by-step through a series of questions and upon completion, it will generate a completed DD Form 1351-2 travel voucher.
2. Follow the How to Complete the DD1351-2 Guide
3. Use the Military Permanent Change of Station or Separating/ Retiring from the Military checklist to make sure you complete all the required information.
4. Review your specific entitlement under the "PCS Entitlements" above.

If memory serves they combine. I scheduled a HHG move through the govt. and I'm still being given about 1300 in per diem for myself and my wife. I don't see why they would revoke per diem for a PPM.

It cost me a good amount of terminal leave (they need 20 days notice) but it was worth it. A PPM will burn your bank account for a fair amount of time until you are reimbursed. I couldn't afford that between new rental costs and deposits, so I did what I had to do to get the HHG done for me.

My case: Govt shipped my HHG and I submitted a separate claim for my travel and that of my dependents. Two separate actions.

Dependent travel:

Accompanied by Service Member
Service members are authorized dependent PCS travel and transportation allowances when completing a PCS move including:

• Transportation-in-kind plus per diem
• Reimbursem*nt for common carrier transportation procured at personal expense plus per diem
• MALT for POC Travel, plus per diem for the required travel days between authorized points.

Not Accompanied by Service Member

If the dependents moved to the new duty station and were not accompanied by the service member, a separate DD 1351-2 must be submitted for the dependents’ period of travel. When submitting a separate DD 1351-2, be sure to include all lodging receipts (regardless of amount) and receipts for any reimbursable expense exceeding $75.

I cannot compute your benefits but this thread brings back fond memories.

While attending ANCOC as an Army SSG/E6, I was the lone “student” who aced the travel test.
