Although it’s not widely celebrated unfortunately, May 30th is the Day of Folk Houses here in Japan. What’s great about traditional Japanese houses is that they are made of natural materials—wood, paper, grass—and needless to say, it’s a showcase of the life and aesthetic taste of the individual that built or lived in the structure. Wooden pillars in particular are interesting as they are made of the type of wood that happened to be available at the time. Some are thick, some are slim, some are straight and some are winding. The angle of the roof edges make a statement about the former owner, just as the edgy bodies of Ferraris and Lamborghinis say something about the owner. Judging from the angle of the roof in the photo, the first owner Mr. Murakawa Kengo (1875 - 1946) may have been a bit of a nonconformist 😁! He was a western history professor at what is now Tokyo University. Somebody in the long past said “yes” to building the structure in the way it was built, and when we find ourselves thinking “I would have said yes to that too,” we realize we are in agreement with a person who used to exist once upon a time. I love that moment ☺️!Photo of the former house of Murakawa Kengo, Saitama Prefecture. ▶︎ Please check out my book on Japanese culture and history at: https://a.co/d/3xuVxTJ#japanesehouse #japanesearchitecture #japaneseculture #nostalgia #japao #japon #japantravel #folkvibe #japanstyle #metroclassicjapanese

The below description of 清明上河图 "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" caught my attention:"𝙷𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙿𝚊𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚎 𝙼𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚞𝚖, 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚙𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 "𝙰𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚁𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝙳𝚞𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚀𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙵𝚎𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚊𝚕" 𝚋𝚢 𝚉𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐 𝚉𝚎𝚍𝚞𝚊𝚗 𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚂𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝙳𝚢𝚗𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚢 𝚘𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚊 𝚍𝚎𝚝𝚊𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚍 𝚙𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚛𝚊𝚖𝚒𝚌 𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 𝚘𝚏 𝚕𝚒𝚏𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝙱𝚒𝚊𝚗𝚓𝚒𝚗𝚐, 𝚌𝚊𝚙𝚒𝚝𝚊𝚕 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙽𝚘𝚛𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚗 𝚂𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝙳𝚢𝚗𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚢 (𝟿𝟼𝟶-𝟷𝟷𝟸𝟽). (text from China Plus Culture). We have heard of Beijing (lit. Northern Capital), Nanjing (Southern Capital) etc but what does the meaning of Bianjing entail? The Chinese character Bian 汴 came from the Bian River 汴水 which was an ancient river partly located within the borders of China's Kaifeng City, Henan Province. Incidentally, Bianjing was also known as 东京 Dong-jing lit Eastern Capital then and if you are into Japanese, you would know that the kanji word for To-kyo is 东-京 i.e. Eastern Capital. But Northern Song Dynasty was also known of having secondary capitals (副都/陪都) in other three directions i.e. North, South and West, see attached. They are not to be confused with the current Beijing and Nanjing as they were located in the current Henan and Hebei provinces then.Secondary capitals are cities that are strategically located to defend against enemies and so they functioned like a capital i.e. given authority to make decision. This was critical since making Bianjing the decision authority would mean the state would not react in time when the enemy mounted a quick attack. Finally, some images of the awesome "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" painting are attached as it measures 26cm x 5.25m and hence I could not include complete images of it due to the restrictions of the no. of LI images.Photos' credit : China Plus Culture🔗#david_tbk_china#Chinaposts#chinesehistory#NorthernSongDynasty

It seems out of a movie but it really exists: Yanjin, the narrowest metropolis in the world!Looking at the images of the city of Yanjiin you always get the impression that it does not exist in reality and that it is a cinematic trick to create a metropolis of an imaginary world. But this metropolis that is considered the narrowest in the world really exists and is located in the Chinese province of Yunnan. The city consists of stilt-like buildings built on the rocks overlooking the Nanxi River and represents one of the most scenic scenarios in the whole of China. But who wants to live in such a difficult city?#city #engineering #structuralengineering #urbanism For more:📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering📌 Click on the 🔔

#Decent_life #Weekend#MountDawang in Fujian Province, China, also known as Shamao Rock or Tianzhu Peak, is located on the western side of Wannian Palace, spanning across the mouth of Jiuyu Creek. It is the first peak encountered when entering Wuyi Mountain. Standing at an elevation of 530 meters, it is majestic and awe-inspiring, resembling a towering pillar that dominates the landscape. Among the thirty-six peaks of Wuyi Mountain, it is often referred to as the "King of Immortal Valleys."This is China, where #QingdaoDecentGroup is from.
