B/R Wrestling Staff Predictions for WWE King and Queen of the Ring 2024 Match Card (2024)

WWE is back in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this weekend for the King and Queen of the Ring pay-per-view.

In addition to the titular QOTR and KOTR finals, we will also see three title matches. Here is a look at the card as of Friday morning, according to WWE.com:

Cody Rhodes vs Logan Paul

The odds of Paul winning the world title are slim, but do you think he will be WWE champion someday?

Yes, with the caveat that he stays over with the audience and does not do anything away from the ring to jeopardize the company. Had he been just any other celebrity performer, the answer would be "no." Still, he is infinitely better than anyone ever expected and his work reflects that of a future world champion. Not capitalizing on his fan base and star power would be a misstep.

King of the Ring

Offer an argument for why Gunther should win.

Gunther already considers himself a Ring General. Elevating him to the king, especially by overcoming Sheamus, Jey Uso, and presumably, Randy Orton makes sense. With the winner now receiving a future championship opportunity, and with WWE presenting Bash in Berlin on August 31, it feels like the right recipe for a massive push of the Austrian-born competitor.

Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan

If you were in charge, how would you book this match and why?

Lynch is one of the best all-around talents in WWE, but this moment needs to be about Morgan. Not only would a win over Lynch give her legitimate credibility, but it could also add even more fuel to the fire for the story of Morgan taking over The Judgment Day from Rhea Ripley.

King of the Ring

Offer an argument for why Gunther should lose

The only conceivable reason for Gunther not to win the King of the Ring tournament is to have Tama Tonga look strong, but even then, it's still not optimal booking. Unless Gunther is injured, he should be victorious, but the second-best option would be to have Tonga use his Bloodline connections to steal the win and set up a long-term feud with the former Intercontinental champion.

Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed

On a personal level, who do you want to see win?

Gable has lost when it has mattered most so many times in the last year that he's definitely due for a big win on this show. WWE could justify Zayn retaining by having him pin Reed to win and prolong his program with Gable, but this really should be where Gable gets his crowning moment, preferably with an assist from The Creed Brothers who turn heel in the process.

Queen of the Ring

Offer an argument for why Lyra Valkyria should win

All signs point to Nia Jax winning the crown, but Valkyria going over in the finals would be a pleasant surprise. WWE has done a strong job of booking her on the main roster so far by having her win three straight matches and aligning with Lynch. Her becoming Queen of the Ring would give fans yet another reason to want to invest in her.

Offer an argument for why Lyra Valkyria should lose.

Valkyria has burst onto the main roster scene with multiple surprise early wins. She is also already backing up Lynch. She has so much going on that winning Queen of the Ring is not necessary. If anything, forcing her to play up to the Queen gimmick might actually slow her progress.

Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan

Is Morgan the right person to beat Lynch for the title?

Morgan has done everything in her power to sell herself as the top heel on Raw. She has not gotten a chance to have a serious run with the women's title to date. She has a built-in story as a champion with Ripley when she returns. It all lines up to sell her as the only woman that should dethrone Lynch.

Cody Rhodes vs Logan Paul

How would you book this match if you were Triple H?

Let Paul and Rhodes go at it similar to Paul and Roman Reigns with a lot of false finishes and massive interference by Team Prime. Let Rhodes ring general this match while allowing Paul to showcase his aerial offense.

Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed

What is the most satisfying ending this match could have and why?

Gable secures the victory and proves to Alpha Academy that following the Gable way leads to gold. This will make Gable even more unhinged and further develop his awesome character.

King of the Ring

Who should win the SmackDown bracket to face Gunther?

Randy Orton and Tama Tonga are going to put on a great match, but with the Bloodline looking to re-establish dominance, Tonga seems like a safer bet. The Viper can recover from any loss at this point in his career, although it wouldn't be surprising to see WWE find a way to book Orton to become King.

Queen of the Ring

Who should win the SmackDown bracket to face Valkyria?

This is harder to pick because both women make sense depending on what WWE wants to do. If Valkyria is to win, she should overcome Nia Jax in the finals, but if WWE isn't ready to push her that hard, then Bianca Belair is going to win. Jax seems like a slight favorite, but only by a small margin.
